Personality: Sandpaw has nearly on the spot eidetic memory, meaning she can recall sounds, scents, and sights after a short exposure time and with little need for repetition. This makes for a good apprentice and even better medicine cat. On the downside, she can be somewhat distant from everyone else because she's off thinking about something else entirely. She is slow when it comes to social cues, and has a poor concept of things that are considered rude or hurtful to someone when she is merely speaking the truth. Speaking of truth, she is painfully honest and doesn't understand why someone would need to lie about something.
History: Brightfeather and Flamestripe, two ShadowClan cats, were probably the most normal couple you could find in the forest. They were both young and bright eyed, still excited for life, and Brightfeather wanted nothing more than to have kits. The two conceived during leafbare, planning it out so their kits would be born in newleaf. What they did not plan on was Brightfeather getting sick. It wasn't very bad, just a tiny case of whitecough, but it set off a chain of events that would make her first kitting a living hell. During a warm snap, the queen went into labor early. It was painful, much more than it should have been, and blood pooled everywhere. There was massive internal and external bleeding, and Brightfeather died. There were three kits in the litter: two toms and a she-cat. One tom was stillborn, and the others were weak. During the brief cold snap that followed before newleaf arrived in force, the other tom died as well. But that little she-kit made it, and Flamestripe named her Sandkit for her pale ginger fur.
Sandkit had a somewhat normal upbringing. With no mother to care for her, she was raised as a joint effort between the other queens in the nursery, as well as her father, who brought her prey and played with her every day. In her early kithood she was prone to coughing and wheezing, meaning she was a frequent visitor in the medicine cat's den. The curious nature of kits led her to asking questions about the different herbs the medicine cat used, what they were for, how they prepared them. She became interested in the art almost immediately, far more so than she was in hunting or fighting. The medicine cat saw the potential in the kit and asked her to become their apprentice. Sandkit thought about it long and hard before giving her answer and becoming Sandpaw, but eventually agreed.
