THE RULES
- CO is for members sixteen or older! Sorry!
- Maintain an amicable attitude with your peers. OOC drama is a big taboo here. We don't expect everyone to get along perfectly, but there's never any reason to be disrespectful. Expect to be kicked out if you mess with the website's harmony.
- Respect the staff members -- they got their jobs for a reason and they know what they're doing. Of course, everyone's human and we all make mistakes, but don't take the opportunity to jump on a staff member if they make an error. On the flip side, if you believe a member of the staff is abusing their powers, please PM me with evidence.
- If your character isn't accepted, wait a while to improve your writing abilities, fix your mistakes, and try again! There's a Spell Check button even in Quick Replies. The staff member reviewing your application will PM you with what needs to be fixed, so at the very least you won't be in the dark about why your application was rejected.
- Do not post anywhere with or about a character who hasn't been accepted yet. The Character Applications board is checked frequently, so it shouldn't take long for your app to be reviewed. Be patient.
- In-Character fights are not to be taken out of the character and vise versa. If you're having a problem with a user, hit the "report user" button on their profile and send me, or any of the staff, a PM explaining what is bothering you. If you have a problem with one of the staff members, PM me specifically. If you have a problem with me, well, I don't bite.
- Please be active. This should go without saying, but this site should not have 3/20 members active. If you just make an account and then ditch the site (i.e. make an account and never activate it / literally never appear again), your account will be deleted. Of course, you do not need to be online 24/7-- I, of all people, understand that there are responsibilities outside of the Internet --but at least pop in once every few days long enough to reply to posts or talk to other members. If you have to leave for an extensive length of time, please let us know in the Farewell board.
- Don't ask to be part of the staff. If we decide you're one for the job, we'll come to you. Frequent pestering about becoming a staff member will result in a 3 day suspension.
- Clans of Origin is a APM site, meaning you only have to have one account and all your characters go on the same account.
LITERATURE
- Clans of Origin is a literate-to-advanced roleplaying site. We expect decent grammar, capitalization, spelling, and proper punctuation (having five exclamation points in a row is not necessary).
We understand that everyone makes mistakes (everybody has those days), but please, put your best effort into your posts. Chatspeak is not allowed in or out of the roleplay because "N0 0n3 w!11 b3 4bl3 t0 und3rst4nd wut u R s4y!ng!!!" (That's a bit of an exaggerated example, but the use of "u", "r", and "y" makes you look incompetent and doesn't give a good impression on a literate RP site.)- Posts should be of a decent length. I, personally, say "quality over quantity", but 3 lined posts generally don't leave your partner much to reply to, which can cause threads to become stagnant. If anything, posts should be at least 100 words or more. That's the bare minimum.
- You must write in third person when roleplaying.
- Members do not start threads. For continuity purposes, a single thread is used in each board and represents a single day. When that day comes to a close and all daily miniplots are wrapped up, that thread will be locked and a staff member will start a new one. Sounds weird, but it's worked in the past and allows easy mingling for all characters. Not only that, but it's used to keep one Clan from getting the more attention than the rest, as Half Moon Meetings and Gatherings will only be held when all Clans are up to speed!
ROLEPLAYING
- God-Modding/Power-Playing is strictly forbidden. These two terms cover a variety of unfair manners of role playing. All of the below are included, and will receive warning:
- Taking control of another member's character(s) without that user's permission.
- 'Super' characters who hone amazing skill, strength, etc. (i.e. - never hurt, constantly evades, magical powers, etc.)
- Controlling non-player characters. NPCs are to be played by those allowed by the creators, and the staff - anything beyond that is a direct violation of the first rule.- Meta-Gaming is a term used when a role-player grants at least one of their characters information that the character has not obtained and could not possibly possess. This is usually done to give one character an advantage over another. Like God-Modding and Power-Playing, Meta-Gaming is punishable.
- Warrior code-breaking plots must be approved by a staff member! This is to avoid there being fifty Cross-Clan relationships and multiple cats with rogue parents! Situations like these are intended to be rare in the Warriors universe. Click here for more information.
- Don't double post. If you have forgotten anything in your previous post, the modification button is there for a reason.
- When out-of-character in a roleplay thread, to write a comment to the other user(s) please use an indication, such as brackets.
- You cannot decide the fates of other characters. Plots that have planned deaths of other felines (not owned by you) without permission from the owner beforehand will be immediately discarded. (I bring this up only because of I've actually seen this happen, lol.)
- Liquid Time is not allowed. You should have one character in one Roleplay at a time. (i.e. if Firepaw is in camp, you cannot thread him at the gathering or in the territory at the same time. For continuity purposes.)
- Please do not include large images with your role play posts (this does not include signatures). Putting a header in the top of your first post in a thread is fine, just make sure it does not stretch the board.
CHARACTERS
- All character applications are to be posted in the Character Applications board only. Click on "New Thread." Everything you need to fill out will appear in place of the regular reply box. If this is not the case, contact a staff member for assistance.
- Members are allowed five characters (leader/deputy/med.cat included) per Clan to start them off. After you have reached the initial maximum amount for that Clan, the rest of your characters must be "born" in, meaning yep -- starting from kits. After that, you can play as many characters as you please, as long as you're able to give all of them a proper spotlight. Only roleplay the amount of characters that you know you can handle. The beginning character limit does not apply to rogues, loners, and kittypets.
- Your first character cannot be a cat of power (leader/deputy/med.cat/med.apprentice). You need to establish yourself as an active, literate member of the community first. Once you have been on the website for at least a week, actively participating in threads, you may then apply for a higher, open position within a Clan.
- You can make a total of two high position cats. However, you may not play two of the same position, and they cannot be in the same Clan. The only way to play more than 2 high ranking cats is if they are chosen In-character via RP (and not by you asking or begging, mind you), but you still cannot play 2 of the same rank in a territory, nor can you "influence" your character being chosen. High ranking cats include: leaders, deputies, medicine cats, and medicine cat apprentices.
- LGBT cats are permitted, however, on the same page, please remember that these are wild animals living in small colonies who rely on reproduction to keep their Clan thriving. Trans cats must be XXY chimeras. Same sex pairs cannot reproduce, but may adopt orphaned kittens or ask a Clanmate to be their surrogate.
- Cats do not wear earrings, scarves, bangles, etc. The only accessory that a cat is allowed to have is a collar, and that only applies to kittypets, loners, and rogues that were once owned by twolegs. And if you do decide to "decorate" your kittypet, please be realistic! No one really studs their house cat's collars with diamonds or jewels, and on the off chance they do, I don't think they would be letting the cat outside at its own leisure.
Warriors do not wear anything; they're feral, which means they are born in the wild away from humanity. The only exception would be a collar-wearing kittypet who joins the Clans. However, even in such a case, collars would be removed because they have the potential to be noisy.- The second part of the p asswor d for the Registration board is kill.
- Height, weight, general size of a character, coloring, and markings should be realistic. For help with designing your character, click HERE. For a more detailed list of restrictions, click HERE. For some helpful information on tortoiseshells, calicoes, and torbies, click HERE.
- When creating a warrior, you have 60 skill-points to spend. Kits start out with 0's (though those bred in-game may get stat boosts from their parents), but will receive skill-points in specific stats based on RP'd events/lessons. Your apprentice can only become a warrior after reaching at least 4-5 points in each of the basic levels.
- If you give us a golden or white, beautiful, friendly, kind, and loving cat with a "you better watch out if she gets angry!" personality and a sob story history containing the tragic loss of all her loved ones... guess what! Her application will be rejected without a second's hesitation. Mary-sues and Gary-stus are not allowed, and will not be accepted!
- COO follows a form of traditionalism regarding our naming system, and so we are strict on names. For help with choosing an appropriate prefix, click HERE.
- For reference images, if you choose to use a drawing over a photo, you must get permission from the artist first (with evidence provided) or draw it yourself. Using an image without permission is considered art theft, and not only will your application be rejected, but we will report you to the artist. In fact, I highly recommend FLICKR for all of your kitty photo needs!
