Personality: Oakshade is one of those cats who would love to be mute if he could. He is terrible at talking, and always mixes up his words no matter what he's saying. The tom believes his stuttering may be linked to a head injury he developed as a younger cat, but he is unsure.
Oakshade would prefer simply observing what's going on around him over talking about it. When he does talk, his voice is deep and hoarse, something that isn't very pleasant to the ears. Oakshade is an observant tom, mostly because he spends more time looking around than he does socializing. When in a conversation, he can easily pick out what the other cats are feeling, whether it be anger or warmth or something in between.
When Oakshade speaks, he can come off as a little too straightforward, but he always says what he says for the better. It may offend some cats, but if he does hurt them mentally, he will always try to make it up to them.
Oakshade can become dishonest, mostly to spare another's feelings, but that can sometimes get him in trouble with other cats. If he has resorted to lying, he usually ends up feeling so bad about it, and he will tell a cat when he is lying -- just to get it off of his mind. He is also really judgmental, but would never let others know of that aloud. First impressions are a huge part of this tom's thoughts. If someone doesn't suit him at their first meeting, he will find it hard to grow to like them.
This tom rarely has a temper, and is a calm being. He doesn't like to get in fights...for very long. There are times when he will throw a hissy fit and rage at another cat, but that only lasts a few seconds before he politely apologizes. If a cat hurts one he is close to, he won't let them pass off easily. He would defend his friends and family with his life, in the case of an emergency, as would he do with the rest of his clan.
Oakshade is graceful on his paws, especially when running. Under his fur, his muscles are tough, which may come off as odd for a medicine cat.
It's hard to say that Oakshade is incredibly loyal, because if there was something he wanted very badly, against the code or not, he would go for it with very slight hesitation.
Oakshade loves to show off his wise mind, but never to the point that he is bragging in another's face. He is seen as formal with his smarts, a lot of the time, mostly because of the big words he uses. To work alongside this fact, this tom also likes to keep himself looking tidy. He finds that others respect him more when he is clean and wise.
Oakshade is also a patient cat who can wait for a long time for something to be done. He rarely fails to complete his daily duties, and is almost always on a schedule. He wakes up bright and early, usually before sunrise, every day to check on his herb supply. Is he's missing something or is low on something, he'll spend the next little while, as the sun rises, to collect that herb. Mid-morning, Oakshade will scan the camp for any signs of disease and provide the apprentices with mousebile for the elders' ticks. In the afternoon he's organizing or teaching his apprentice, and later in the day is his own free time.
Oakshade works better when he is given specific instructions, but that doesn't happen a lot. He does set his own goals, though, which help him reach certain expectations. Oakshade always puts his work before his little chats, as well.
History: Oakshade was born in a litter of two to two () proud warriors, Tumblefire and Hollowfoot. His mother is the one who helped bring out the soft side of his personality, the quiet and observant part of him. She always told him that, with patience, he could learn as much as he wanted to. On the other side, though, his father was pushing him to become stronger and learn from his mistakes. He was sort of like a warrior mentor to Oakkit, wanting his son to be the best warrior he could be. His father was rather abusive at times, though, especially when his son would not follow commands. This resulted in a terrible accident -- one that both toms would surely never forget. Hollowfoot had slammed his paw against Oakkit’s head, claws unsheathed, which took half of his ear off and left him in the medicine cat den for a moon. His brain’s been fuzzy ever since.
Oakkit also had a brother that he was very close to, and they were practically an inseparable pair. His name was Mosskit, but he passed away when disease struck him down. This is what inspired Oakkit to take the path of a medicine cat -- so that he could make sure nothing like this happened again.
Hollowfoot was obviously disappointed when Oakkit chose to take the path of a medicine cat.
As he went through his training, his mentor, Squirrelfire, would tell him stories of all of the cats she helped and all of the lives she saved. Oakpaw looked up to her in a way that most apprentices wouldn’t. She was like a mother-figure to him, and when she disappeared one day, Oakpaw was devastated. It was a problem for the clan, as well, because they were now left with a young medicine cat that was not completely trained. Luckily, the leader and warriors of the clan helped guide Oakpaw through the process of receiving his medicine cat name, and helped teach him the rest of the knowledge that he was required to know.
Oakshade became a strong medicine cat, one that could work quickly and precisely and always be there in times of need.
