Jackdaw is a grumpy little thing. Small in stature, he makes up for it with his sharp-tongue and quick wit.History:
He is not fond of the weird rules or religious aspects that bind Clan life, but he does like the shelter and food. Even if he's not the best at expressing his pleasure for company, he likes the group effort of surviving and protecting each other. It makes him feel safe and useful when he brings home a piece of meat to provide for his Clan.
But even surrounded by cats, Jackdaw is very lonely. He sometimes regrets not opting to change his name just to better fit in with his Clanmates, but as it's all he has left of his mother, so he keeps it as his own. When questioned about his name, or really anything about his life before the Clan, the young tom gets very defensive. As it is, he's very easily offended, and very likely to make a small scene about it, only because his temper is so short and his social skills are so poor.
Jackdaw was born in a barn by Twolegplace. His mother had taken a kittypet mate the newleaf before, but as he had his life and she had hers, they hardly got the time to see each other.Heritage:
The early days were the easiest. The barn was bustling with small critters and his mother was a fine hunter, so he had never experienced hunger. Regardless of this relatively easy life, his mother started training her kits how to hunt and defend themselves early on. His life, up to this point, had been so simple because she didn't let them leave the barn. It was big enough to keep the kits occupied until she felt they were old enough to handle the outdoors.
But it appeared that she had mistimed it.
She had been bringing the kits balls of moss to satiate their thirst, so upon exploring the outdoors, the three saw the river for the very first time. Curious and unaware of the danger, while toying with the stones around the water, Jackdaw's youngest sister fell in and drowned.
The remaining two kits cried for their mother, but she arrived too late, and the young kit's body was washed away by the current. After that, Jackdaw and his sister weren't let out of the barn again for quite some time; not out of spite, but out of fear.
They accepted the lifestyle for some time, but quickly became restless. They were growing up after all and, while traumatised by their littermate's demise, were itching to discover more (albeit a lot more carefully).
The two were waiting in the barn to address this with their mother one day, but she didn't return home. Days passed with no sign of the she-cat, and eventually the two littermates left the barn, curious of their mother's location.
After hours of searching the territory and attempting to follow her scent, they found her dead in the grass, killed by a snake she'd been trying to catch.
Jackdaw lost it after this. It took an extreme amount of consolation from his older sister, who was dealing with mourning herself, before the young tom had calmed down enough to help her bury their mother.
Once she was beneath the earth, the two cats woefully left the area, as it no longer felt like home. They wandered around the edge of Twolegplace for sometime, snacking from garbage cans like a pair of scavengers. They hunted when they could, but there wasn't nearly as much prey around Twolegs as there was back near the woods.
Though still considerably shaken from the happenings of the barn, Jackdaw missed the feeling of mouse between his teeth, and suggested the duo return to the woods. Much to his surprise, his sister refused and expressed that she'd been thinking of finding their father and becoming a kittypet. Jackdaw bitterly argued that their father had never been there for them when they needed him, but his sister was looking to find whatever family they had left. The two argued, resulting in Jackdaw running back into the woods, where he almost immediately bumped into a SunClan patrol. He had never seen so many cats in his entire life and forgot about his fight with his sister as the Clan cats walked him back to their camp.
It was away from Twolegplace, away from the barn, and Jackdaw enjoyed their dynamic. When he started to participate in the Clan life, despite their weird ways, he was offered a place in the Clan, to which he accepted. He was tested briefly on his hunting and fighting and was apprenticed only for two moons before he was considered a SunClan warrior.
With the way in which things had happened, so suddenly and one-after-another, he had never gotten the chance to return to Twolegplace and make amends with his sister. Much of his time alone is spent worrying about her, but he chooses to keep his thoughts to himself.
